Happy wedding Wednesday, friends! It’s chilly but a beautiful day outside and I’ve been dreaming of warmth and sunshine. Funny enough, I chose a cloudy and rainy wedding to share for this wedding feature. Don’t worry, there’s enough coral charm peonies that I think you’ll still melt anyway! So excited to share Asheley and David’s Birmingham backyard wedding with you today.
Asheley and I first connected on Thumbtack, which is rare because sometimes it’s hard to tell if the leads they send are legit (most of them have basically no budget for photography or the wedding is four years off). I’m so glad we found each other though because we hit it off immediately. Even though Asheley and David live in the Atlanta area, we made plans for their engagement session here in Birmingham. With a crazy spring schedule, we opted for a sunrise session instead of sunset. Of course the morning we shot it was the first cold day in weeks, but we survived and even went to Holler and Dash for biscuits as another location (and breakfast together!). We shared a lot of laughs and really just got along stupid well. I love making friend connections with my couples, and I feel like y’all are definitely my people.
Asheley had told me all kinds of things about how the wedding day was going to be, but any expectations I had were beyond exceeded as soon as I arrived! This gorgeous day took place at David’s parents’ home, nestled off of 280 on top of the mountain with a fantastic overlook. It was such a beautiful place and really I don’t think they could’ve chosen a better venue. Cici, David’s mom, was such a gracious host and knows how to throw a party! My favorite details were basically everything. I near about fell in the pool when I walked outside for the first time and saw the explosion of florals everywhere. EVERYWHERE! And that color palette! Swoon. Also, can we talk about how fun those bright mismatched linens are? They really made the look! Unfortunately since it rained for half of the reception, they weren’t used as much, but still looked great. I also loved Asheley’s high-low hemline dress; it fit her personality perfectly. I loved how the invitation suite tied into the color palette too. And again… coral. charm. peonies.
My favorite moments were definitely the first look. Asheley and David’s faces were both so priceless when they saw each other for the first time! With rain on the forecast, we went ahead and finished all of their romance photos before the wedding and had so much fun wandering around the property finding all the hidden gems of spots. When Asheley saw the reception area for the first time she gasped as big as. I did. I loved getting to see her see everything. I also loved that even though it was raining during the ceremony, they stayed outside and toughed it out. A little rain never hurt anyone! Another favorite favorite moment was when Asheley agreed to get in the pool in her wedding dress. YOU GUYS it was so amazing. She knew she was changing for the reception anyway. That honestly might be one of my favorite memories from any wedding ever. The reception continued with amazing tunes from the Packway Handle Band, a bluegrass band I listened to in college, a big dance party, and eventually a big pool party!
I’ll stop gushing for now. I’m seriously so glad I got to be a part of your wedding, Asheley and David. It was SO fun and I am so glad I know you guys! Hope married life is still as amazing as your wedding day was! Much love.
