Today for wedding Wednesday, I’m throwing back to 2016 for a minute. There are still so many fabulous weddings from that year that need to be blogged! The last two years really brought so much goodness. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this year brings the same! Today I’m sharing some fun and funky eclectic goodness from Ashley and Dan’s wedding at Saturn in Birmingham/Avondale.
Ashley and I had met about ten years before when we were both at Montevallo together. We share many mutual friends (most of whom I’ve shot their weddings as well!), so it already felt special to get to be a part of their lovely day! When I found out the wedding was going to be at Saturn and with a really killer team, I was immediately excited! Ashley and Dan spend many nights at Saturn and at its predecessor Bottletree, so it was only fitting that their wedding be there as well. Saturn is such a cool place for shows and hanging out with a great vibe and fun drinks. The way it was subtly transformed while still keeping so many of the intricate details it already had was Ashley’s vision that was really brought to life!
My favorite details were probably hands down all of the floral goodness from Studio Flower. I’m such a sucker for great florals as it is, and Tiffany really showed up! I also really loved Ashley’s art deco inspired wedding dress and that delicious naked cake made by our friend Salem. It was kinda like an angel food cake with a light and airy frosting and full of berries. It was quite possibly one of the best cakes I’ve ever had at a wedding! The venue brought a lot of fun details on its own as well, and it was fun photographing them with Ashley and Dan.
My favorite moments of the day started when I first arrived. Ashley got ready in the upstairs part of Saturn with some of her besties, more of our mutual friends! It was so fun to see everyone and I felt like home from the beginning. This group of (mostly) ladies have stuck together through thick and thin over many years and they are always so loving and welcoming. It was great being back with them! As the day progressed, we had the first look outside of Saturn and went to Avondale Park for romance, which you all know how much I love romance shots. Always my favorite part of the day, and these two know how to kill it. They had a beautiful ceremony followed by a very dancy reception and left the night by sparklers! Their wedding day was really a Birmingham dream come true.
Ashley and Dan, I know it’s been a minute, but I hope you are loving every minute of married life and had a great first anniversary a few months ago! Hope to see you soon, much love to you both!
Ashley sure knows how to rock a bridal portrait. Heart eyes!
This first look!!!
Annnnd, onto Avondale Park! Anyone else a sucker for a willow tree? Just me?
^ and this is why.
Love that gown detail so much!
Thanks Bre for coming along to dress toss for us!
Two of my favorite shots of the day. Above, this wide ceremony shot exposing to the lights and all the moody darkness that was created. And below, the image on the right was a complete accident as Ashley and Dan were recessing down the aisle. A very happy accident!
For an Avondale wedding, Post Office Pies was pretty fitting to have as the caterer! And quite a tasty choice as well!
When Danielle caught the bouquet and got engaged the next month! Just shot her wedding this past year too! :)
