I hope you’ve all had a great week! It’s been busy around here! So many new brides added to our wedding family that I’m thrilled about; 2016 is going to be so wonderful! Wedding season officially kicks off in about two weeks, so I’m playing catch up on a million other things to prepare. With so many newly pregnant mamas in my newsfeed, I wanted to share one of the most beautiful photographic experiences I’ve had to date: the birth of baby Hudson.
Brandi and Benj are an incredible couple, but I knew that before our trip to the hospital! Brandi and I grew up together and I shot with these two years ago when I was first getting my business off the ground. When Brandi wrote me about shooting her birth, I had just shot another with my friend Lindsey and I was on a birth high, if you will. There’s just something insanely magical about witnessing a baby coming into this world. I’ve had three myself, but with my first being an emergency c-section and scheduling my second and third (that’s what having babies in the middle of wedding season’ll getcha!), I haven’t had quite the same experience as these ladies. I was so pumped to be the official photog for Brandi.
We had been keeping in touch about every week once she was 36 weeks along and then she scheduled an induction just in case her labor hadn’t started before. Well, all of that changed the night before her due date! Her water broke and they headed to Brookwood. When she arrived around 11pm, she was only 2cm dilated, so I went to sleep (tried to anyway!). Around 4am, she was at 8cm, so I packed up and left my house! However baby Hudson had a different idea and decided to wait about seven more hours before he was ready for his mama to start pushing. Three and a half hours later… and he was here. Brandi was so incredibly strong (I’m still secretly referring to her as Xena) and tears of joy filled the room. Hudson was perfect and this new mom and dad were so happy. It was seriously so amazing to be a part of!
Here’s a few photos from this momentous day! There were some color images too, but there’s just something about a birth in black and white to me. Brandi and Benj, congrats again. Thank you so much for having me! Love you all!
