I feel like it’s totally appropriate that Holly and Roach’s wedding be the next one to be blogged, considering Holly and I basically became instant friends in a matter of minutes, and have since traveled to Chicago together for a for-fun trip since their wedding. Yep, you read that right! Holly and I met a little over a month before her wedding to chat details and instead we talked about all the nerdy things we love (mostly Pokemon). We met for lunch the next week and planned wedding details, shot this stunner of a day a few weeks later, and now we still see each other regularly. I’ve had lots of clients turned friends, but not like this one! Plus Roach is a catch and these two make quite the pair. I’m pretty pumped to be sharing their wedding at the Kress Building with everyone. (ps- my kids are back in school thank goodness, blogging on the regular is coming back!).
Holly and Roach have been together for over seven years and have some precious pups together. This past fall, Roach decided to pop the question and marry this pretty lady! Life happens and was busy, which is why we didn’t meet up to talk wedding things until a little over a month before the big day. I was so glad they chose a Sunday date and we were able to work everything out! Holly had a specific vision for her wedding, but not so much in the form of details. She was most excited about having all of their family and friends in one spot. They wanted a big party full of laughs, hugs, and dancing. Which is honestly what most people want from their wedding, but being surrounded by such a big group of people who loves this couple SO much really made me see why this was so important for Holly and Roach. They have an amazing support system (that loves to dance!)!
As far as the look of the wedding, Holly wanted something outdoors and both her and Roach really wanted something downtown and in the middle of the city. The Kress Building rooftop was basically perfect for this (and the weather ended up being that perfect spring weather, which made everything that much better). I had been to the Kress Building for another project before but this was my first wedding there. The rooftop really set the vibe for the whole day and brought Holly’s vision full circle.
My favorite details from the day were 1- that. dress. So good! I’m pretty sure it was made just for Holly. And 2- that. bouquet! It was created by another Holly, owner and designer of Rosegolden. I loved Roach’s details as well- that classic white jacket and his Alabama visor that he wears basically all the time (no surprise that it stayed around for most of the wedding day!), roll tide. I can’t not mention their signature drink too- grapefruit margaritas!? And, seeing the skyline for our beautiful city all night long was a pretty great addition to the day.
My favorite moments were of course all the romance. The first look was just as much full of laughs as was the rest of the day, which is very true to Holly and Roach’s relationship. Of course sunset romance was dreamy, especially because these two got into it and brought all the lovey goodness. For the ceremony, Holly and Roach had two of their friends be the flower girls, which was amazing! And their first dance, you would’ve thought they choreographed the whole thing, but really they’re just awesome dancers.
In the midst of this awesome day, Holly realized that the petit fours she ordered from Savage’s Bakery didn’t get picked up. Savages is closed on Sundays, so the entire Birmingham community gathered together through social media to find someone who could get in to pick them up- and guess what? They got them and they were at the wedding! Desserts saved. NBC 13 did a news story on it and everything. It kinda came full circle too, because Asha who picked them up ended up being a model in a styled shoot last week! Such a small world.
Well, I’m writing this post late at night and I feel like I’m probably starting to ramble. If you even read this far, you’re awesome. Before I hit the end, just want to give a quick shout out to Mary Fehr for second shooting with me on this one!
Now for the fun part- these gorgeous photos. Holly and Roach, I’m so glad our paths crossed and the friendship we’ve created. It was beyond a pleasure to be a part of your love story and I hope you always remember how much fun your wedding was when you see your photos. Cheers to lots more fun and an amazing marriage! Love you guys!
And a penny in her shoe.
Love Holly’s shadow in that one
^ one of my favorite shots of the day, Roach’s face y’all.
The BEST flower girls EVER with the best fanny packs ever.
I think you can tell that these guys have been together a while. Twin faces.
mmmmm golden hour
You guys know I’m a sucker for a silhouette… this one’s a good one.
And, there’s the visor! And the first dance.
There are SO many dance photos. So many. I went through and just picked out a few favorites! It was such a fun party.
Holly and Roach didn’t have a formal exit, so we just did a few night romance shots to wrap up the day.
And it was all kindsa perfect. <3
