Happy New Year!

Is anyone else in shock at how fast 2016 flew by? As I went through my entire photo library from last year pulling photos for my best-of posts, I sat in shock and awe at the fact that I’m right back at the beginning of another year. This business never ceases to amaze me in the way that it not only continues to grow, but how it brings just the right clients to my door. You guys, these thirty-three couples below were some seriously amazing couples! As my business has grown, I’ve been able to hone in on my style and how I actually like to shoot, and the people that come to me want me for just that. I can’t say enough how great this year has been for my photography.

In the midst of shooting (and shooting and shooting, and editing and editing), I’ve really learned more about myself and my style. As 2016 progressed, my style began to change a little, and you’ll probably see that as you scroll through these photos. I thought about re-editing the ones from earlier in the year, but I decided against it. I’d rather show my journey than try to change it! And I do still love the photos from earlier on in the year. I learned that I like my photos to be a little different from the norm- a little raw, gritty, natural and organic. Not just in posing and connection, but in my post work too. I was able to refine that into what I now know is the perfect post processing for me and my style, keeping all of that goodness but just cleaning it up a little. Not quite light and bright, not quite dark and moody, but a happy medium where I can go either way and still be pleased with my work.

Anyway, that may be a whole bunch of mumbo jumbo to you, but it’s been a year of learning for me. I’ve grown as a person, as a business owner, as an artist. And I tend to get really word-vomitty when I’m speaking from the heart, or when I get passionate about my work. So, sorry not sorry.

I wish I had the time to go through each of these images and share wonderful words about every couple. Each of you are so special to me. I’m so grateful to you for choosing me as your photographer (seriously).

If you’ve read this far, thanks! I know you really came here to see the photos and heads up- there’s A LOT of photos! Trying to just choose a few from each session was incredibly difficult, but I managed. Maybe one day I’ll get around to blogging each of these individually and sharing even more, but until that day comes… well, just enjoy this post of lots of goodness all together.

GUYS! 2016 was so great. Can’t wait to see what 2017 holds, and I get to start it off with my first engagement session of the year this weekend. So, cheers to that! Much love!

Happy engagement Tuesday!

Last week was missed due to wedding season madness, but I’m back this week and am officially kicking off 2016 engagement sessions, starting with Abbie and Drew!

First, a big congratulations is due to these two cuties, who both graduated from UAB last weekend! I am so thrilled for them as they begin their new adventures! I met with Abbie and her lovely mom Lisa early this year to talk about a July wedding. With school, work, and so much going on, these ladies worked hard to nail down wedding details! First things first though, an engagement session. Abbie, Drew, and I had so much fun at our session, even though we were freezing our butts off. Of course we chose one of the coldest days of the year! Since Abbie and Drew met while attending college together, we decided to stick to the downtown area and Cobb Lane and Railroad Park made for beautiful backgrounds. The light was glorious that day, as you will see!

Abbie and Drew, I can’t wait to spend the wedding day with you at ShellB Acres in just a few short months! The time is flying. Let me know if you need any help with the wedding plans! Much love.

Happy Tuesday!

Spring season has been so insane this year! I don’t know if it’s having an extra kiddo around the house or adding in reveal sessions for each client (or both and then some), but it’s been busier than usual, and I’m loving it! So much goodness to go around and so much to share. I’m bringing back engagement Tuesdays and picking up right where I left off. I’m thrilled to be sharing Caitlyn and Dustin’s lovely fall session with you today!

When Caitlyn first wrote to me about her wedding, I was immediately excited because she’s getting married at one of my most favorite places, The Sonnet House! If you’re venue searching, add these guys to the top of your list. It’s a beautiful venue and the vision Caitlyn and TSH crew have for the wedding… well, let’s just say when that blog post comes, I might be making my creepy goat noises! Caitlyn and I met at the Soho Bridal Show and she was officially part of the wedding family the next day. I had lots of ideas of places that I wanted to shoot at for her session and she trusted me completely. We ventured to new places and old all in my backyard and every spot was perfect. These cuties surely know how to rock the camera! And we especially had fun when it came time for dance practice. Dustin can bring a mean whip and nae nae!

Caitlyn and Dustin, I cannot WAIT for your wedding in just a few short weeks! Can you believe how fast the time has flown? Not too much longer! Much love.

Happy Monday!

Only three more days left of 2015! This year has completely flown by. Over the past few days I’ve been organizing and revamping and processing things for 2016 and I cannot wait for this new year. I am so excited for all of the goodness to come! I’m on a blogging roll this week, so today I am sharing from Sarah and Duston’s engagement session!

I always say that I get to work with the sweetest couples and I really mean it! These two are so in love and it radiated throughout the whole session. Sarah brought her daughter Olivia for a few photos and she knew how to work the camera! I’ve known Duston’s sister Mallory for years and she actually gifted them this session for Christmas last year, but between me having a baby and Sarah being in school, we weren’t able to shoot until this past August. We lucked out with a gorgeous sunny day though and Oak Mountain was the perfect backdrop for our session. We talked the whole time and found lots of mutual interests (Duston introduced me to Game of Thrones theories and my mind is still blown) and had a blast shooting together!

Sarah and Duston, I hope you guys are doing well and having a wonderful holiday season! Happy wedding planning! :)

Happy engagement Tuesday!

Today I am sharing a beautiful urban session featuring Julie and Daniel. Julie actually found me on a site called Thumbtack, where people can submit requests for services and business owners can pay to send quotes. I’m so glad I chose to respond and that she’s going to be a part of our wedding family this coming March! Funny enough, we actually had mutual friends, so it worked out perfectly.

Since these cuties are getting married at Historic Rucker Place, they wanted to keep their session downtown! We chose Morris Avenue and Railroad Park for the locations and the sun graced us with her presence, even though there was a 60% chance of rain for the day we shot. I also played around with the double exposure feature on my camera for the first time, which was a little tricky but a lot of fun (you’ll see the best shot in this post!).

Julie and Daniel, the countdown is on for the wedding (can’t believe we’re almost to the six month mark!) and I can’t wait for the big day to arrive! Thanks for having me as your wedding photographer.
